Associate of Science

What you’ll learn: it’s up to you!

Where you’ll go: this degree is flexible and can give you a good start before transferring to a four-year school. It allows more freedom in course selection than the AAOT, but doesn’t guarantee you’ll be accepted as having completed all lower-division requirements. You’ll need to work with an advisor to choose your classes based on your major.

Associate of General Studies

What you’ll learn: it’s up to you!

Where you’ll go: this degree is designed for students wishing to acquire a broad education, rather than pursue a specific major or career. Because of the flexibility of this degree, it may not fulfill requirements for transfer to a four-year school. You’ll need to work with an advisor to choose your classes depending on your academic goals.

Associate of Applied Science

What you’ll learn: specific skills for your future job. Choose majors in areas like healthcare, business, building, engineering, media arts, public service, and education.

Where you’ll go: this degree prepares you to go right to work in your industry.

Paying for Community College

Community College Tuition is about half the cost of any Oregon Public University. With financial aid (see our menu for information about FAFSA/ORSAA) and the Oregon Promise Grant many of our HIlhi students who go to PCC pay little or no tuition - free education for many.

Oregon Promise Grant

What is this?

The Oregon Promise is a state grant that helps cover tuition costs at any Oregon community college for recent high school graduates. Students must apply during their senior year. For the 2024-25 school year the range of grants was $2,124 to $4,422

Who is Eligible for the Oregon Promise Grant?

Students must meet all of the eligibility and application requirements.

  • Submit the Oregon Promise Grant application AND the FAFSA or ORSAA by the appropriate deadline, and list at least one Oregon community college on the FAFSA or ORSAA.
  • Be a recent Oregon high school graduate or GED® test graduate.
  • Attend an Oregon community college by your required start term, based on your graduation date.
  • Have a 2.0 cumulative high school GPA or higher, or a 145 grade on all GED® tests.
  • Be an Oregon resident for at least 12 months prior to college attendance.
    • For dependent students, your parent(s) must also live in Oregon.
  • Have no more than 90 college credits completed or attempted.
  • Students may be subject to eligibility requirements based on their Student Aid Index (SAI). SAI eligibility requirements are subject to change based on available funding.
    • For Class of 2024 students, there is a final SAI limit of 25,000. Students at or above the limit are not eligible for the grant.
    • In July 2024, the limit was adjusted from 22,000 to 25,000 to award more students after the application window closed. Unfortunately, there are not enough funds to award all Class of 2024 students.
    • For Class of 2025 and beyond, OSAC has not determined if there will be an SAI limit. All eligible students, regardless of income, must apply by their deadline for consideration.
