Glencoe Crimson Tide Claims Victory at Hillsboro School District Unified Basketball Tournament
The Hillsboro School District’s annual Unified Basketball Tournament brought together athletes from Century, Liberty, Hillsboro High School (Hilhi), and host Glencoe High School for a day of skill-building, camaraderie, and spirited competition. This year’s event kicked off with a special 90-minute clinic led by coaches from the Rip City Hoop Squad, the NBA Portland Trail Blazers’ community outreach program dedicated to empowering youth through basketball.
Skills and Drills Set the Stage
The Rip City Hoop Squad, known for hosting camps across the Portland metro area, focused on sharpening fundamentals, dribbling, shooting, passing, and defensive strategies, while emphasizing teamwork and sportsmanship. “It’s about building confidence and joy in the game,” said Coach Tony. “These athletes brought incredible energy, and it set the tone for an amazing tournament.”
Thrilling Games, Electric Atmosphere
Following the clinic, fans packed the stands at Glencoe High School to cheer on the teams during fast-paced, high-energy matchups. The host school’s Glencoe Crimson Tide rode the home-court momentum, delivering standout performances on up to claiming the championship trophy. Their victory sparked roaring celebrations from students, families, and community supporters.
“This team worked so hard all season,” said Glencoe coach William Johnson. “To see them come together, support each other, and finish strong in front of our community, it’s what Unified Sports is all about.” Players from all schools exchanged high-fives and hugs, highlighting the event’s spirit of inclusivity and unity.
A Celebration of Community
The tournament underscored the power of Unified Sports, which pairs students with and without disabilities to promote teamwork and mutual respect. “Days like this remind us that sports transcend competition,” said one Liberty High parent. “It’s about heart, connection, and lifting each other up.”
As the cheers faded, plans for next year’s tournament were already brewing, with Glencoe’s Crimson Tide ready to defend their title, and the Hillsboro community eager to come together once again for a day of hoops and heart.
