Hillsboro High School Water Polo Teams: Celebrating an Incredible 2025 Season

The Hillsboro High School Water Polo Teams had an outstanding 2025 season, with the girls capturing the 5A South league title and finishing 2nd at the 5A Oregon State Championships, and the boys achieving 5th place at state while showcasing balanced scoring, growth, and strong teamwork.
Girls Team
The girls overcame a challenging season—including a four-week pool closure and injuries—to make a remarkable playoff run. They opened the state tournament with an 18-8 victory over Redmond, then pulled off a thrilling 7-6 upset of number 2 Bend to advance to the championship game. Key wins over Lincoln, Hood River (5-4 in overtime), and Ashland helped the team claim the league title and demonstrate their skill and determination.
Co-captains Kate Medina and Lindsey Everton provided strong leadership throughout the season. Standout players Kate, Lindsey, and Rachel Everton earned first-team All-State honors, while Arabella Escalona Perte and Amanda Bittleston received honorable mentions. Kate was exceptional in goal, Lindsey ignited the offense, and defenders Rachel, Arabella, and Kara Dickinson anchored a formidable back line.
Building on a tradition of success—including third-place finishes in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024, and a runner-up finish in 2022—this year’s girl’s team added another memorable chapter to Hillsboro’s water polo legacy. Through hard work, teamwork, and resilience, they demonstrated that Family, Honor, Relentlessness, and Toughness lead to both success and lasting memories.

Boys Team
The Hillsboro Boys Water Polo Team had a remarkable 2025 season, finishing 5th at the 5A Oregon State Championships while demonstrating depth, skill, and balanced scoring. Captains Sean Barber and Cason Strickland led the team with strong leadership and determination.
One key game during the season was the thrilling one point loss to rival Hood River and the standout moment came in the final state playoff game against West Albany, where the boys displayed teamwork, focus, and intensity that will be remembered for years. They kept it close in a back and forth battle with a team that had beaten them twice during the season, falling by 5 goals in the end. A score that did not convey the valiant team effort.
The team excelled on both offense and defense, with multiple players contributing key goals throughout the season. The offense was led by senior Cameron Bell who led the team in goals scored and steals. Sophomore Preston Hutton followed close behind in all categories and will be a valuable leader in the coming years. The strong and cohesive defensive unit was manned by seniors Cason Strickland and Sean Barber and junior Sidney Bates. Senior Carter Dickinson added valuable skills to boost both the offense and defense.
The team finished second in the 5A South League. Several players earned All-League honors, reflecting the team’s depth and talent:
- First Team: Cameron Bell, Cason Strickland, Preston Hutton
- Second Team: Carter Dickinson, Tyler Gregory
- Honorable Mention: Sean Barber
This lineup, combining experience, determination, and skill, will be remembered as one of the most competitive and exciting squads in Hillsboro Water Polo history.
